Chemical Peel Myth #1: Skin should "peel" after having a peel treatment
Truth: Chemical peels can have different strengths. Superficial peels often don't create peeling and don't have any downtime, whereas medium peels can (depending on the number of layers of peel applied) create pilling/peeling and mild downtime, and deep peels will definitely cause peeling and often require significant down time. Additional visible exfoliation/peeling does not determine the quality of treatment. Generally, healthy skin has less visible exfoliation/peeling. Exfoliation often takes place at the lower levels of the skin and is not always seen with the naked eye. Conversely, some skin needs a few peels to loosen dead cells enough to allow them to shed (through pilling or peeling).
