It’s Peel Season Everyone!!!

Chemical peels have been gaining popularity in recent years as skin resurfacing treatments, but they’ve been used as beauty treatments since the time of ancient Egypt.

I love all peels but one of my favorites is the Jessner Peel!

What is your favorite peel?

The Jessner peel was first formulated over a hundred years ago, and it’s still in use today thanks to its ability to:
· Reduce dark patches (melasma) and age spots
· even out skin tone
· reduce the appearance of scars and pores
· smooth fine lines and wrinkles

The Jessner peel works by removing the top layers of skin to reveal smoother, more even-toned skin beneath.

The Jessner peel is typically a medium peel, which means it removes skin cells from the top layer of your skin & the upper portion of the middle layer. It can also be used as a superficial peel, with faster healing time but needs repeating more often.

The peel is made up of a mix of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol in an ethanol solution.

The peel is applied with gauze, a brush, or a cotton-tipped applicator. The treated skin will begin to look frosted as the intensity and depth of penetration increases. You may feel burning or stinging (again, totally tolerable).

Potential Side Effects
While everyone experiences redness, peeling, stinging/burning, and mild swelling, rare complications (especially risky with darker skin toned patients) include darkening or lightening of skin, scarring or infection.

To stay comfortable after a peel and improve healing you should:
· Use a fan or cold compress to cool your skin
· Moisturize frequently (ESSENTIAL), especially when skin feels tight, dry, or itchy
· DO NOT Pick, Peel, or Rub off peeling skin
· Cleanse with warm (not hot) water
· Prevent sun exposure – wear your wide brimmed hat and apply SPF 30+ often because you need to protect that baby fresh skin!
