Spleodar: Joy & Exuberance – How do we achieve these daily?
While tulips aren't quite up in Manitoba yet 😯 I remain hopeful that they will come before June ! So with that said, what does it mean to be joyful or exuberant? We’ve all heard the saying that Joy is Contagious and that those who are surrounded by happy people are more likely to be happy themselves. Likewise, Exuberance has been described as joyful enthusiasm and liveliness Did you know that just trying to be happy can boost your emotional wellbeing? That taking time to appreciate the simple pleasures of life can actually boost health with joyful brain chemicals? I’m not sure how you feel about MINDFULNESS…for me it is conscious or active attitude and focus on creating an emotion. For instance, Joy is an intrinsic attitude, a mindset of gladness to support appreciation, contentment, and gratitude. Some days it comes easily, other days it takes focused self-reminders to look at circumstances and events through “the glass if half full” and thankfulness perspective. Psychological research suggests that you can change your “natural mindset” from being a ‘Negative Nellie’ to ‘Positive Petunia’ – sure it takes focus and work, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE! Do you love your life circumstances enough to be joyful and exuberant? If not, what do you need to do to change your circumstances OR what do you need to do to change your mindset? Perspective is everything to me and the first step in reflecting on my goals, task lists, and how I walk out each day…I mess up LOTS and need to RESET MY PERSPECTIVE to focus on positives and thankfulness. I try to also kindly remind myself that life is a journey of ups and downs and winding roads and that there are lessons in every experience that we can choose to use as influencers and for growth. May your Sunday be filled with joy and exuberance. Cindy Fehr RN(NP)
