Both microneedling and chemical peels are two of the TOP TREATMENTS to fight skin tone irregularities and fine lines. However, which one is better FOR YOU?
MICRONEEDLING uses a device to create thousands of micro-punctures in the skin. This tricks the skin into thinking it is injured which stimulates natural healing which includes production of collagen in the treated areas. Collagen is a key ingredient (along with elastin) for keeping your skin looking young, plump, firm, and smooth. Microneedling is safe on all skin types (except those who form keloids) and is a fantastic treatment for treating wrinkles, large pores, old scars, or uneven skin texture from sun exposure. CHEMICAL PEELS (aka chemexfoliation or dermapeeling) involves application of acids and stimulating ingredients to remove the top layers of tissue, with the goal of improving texture, tone, and overall skin appearance. Superficial peels may not peel at all and are best used for refreshing a glowing complexion or fine lines. Moderate peels penetrate the outer and middle layers of skin and are better to attack more challenging imperfections but will cause peeling and social downtime. Peels can help reduce fine lines around eyes and mouth, treat mild to moderate acne, reduce pore size and mild scarring, and improve pigmented areas, uneven skin tone, melasma or rosacea. Both treatments are described as painless and best results require a series of treatments, usually one month apart (the skin cell turnover cycle time). Both will leave you rosey and maybe a bit swollen immediately after treatment, but this disappears within a day. Both require you wear SPF 30+ as A MUST to prevent hyperpigmentation from UVA damage. Microneedling effects can be improved with application of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to further stimulate collagen and elastin. Chemical Peels take about 30-45 minutes depending on the number of chemical layers, whereas microneedling takes 60-90 minutes (including topical numbing time). So which is right for you?
