​What is Tixel?
​Tixel is a revolutionary new technology designed for tightening and resurfacing your skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles & scars, decreasing pore size, treating active acne, reducing pigment changes (age spots, sun damage) and helping absorption of topical products, ALL with minimal downtime when compared to traditional devices. Tixel is suitable for all skin types and uses heat energy to deliver smoother, firmer and tighter skin by providing three modes of thermo-mechanical ablative treatment - ablative, non-ablative, and open channel (most intensive to mildest settings). 

Similar to other skin rejuvenating treatments, Tixel works by creating controlled trauma to the skin, which stimulates the skin's own wound-healing process to create more collagen, elastin, proteins, and growth factors. This not only helps existing skin become strong and flexible, it provides a fresher, tighter, smoother appearance.
Tixel uses a small, hot metal plate (about 1x1cm) featuring tiny pyramidal shapes, that will be applied to your skin repeatedly all over the desired treatment area(s). Each time the plate touches your skin, it will only be in contact for between 6 and 18 thousandths of a second. This is so quick that even before your nerves can register the heat, the hot metal plate will have been withdrawn. It is an incredibly fast treatment where your entire face usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

The Ablative Mode:
By using heat on the skin to create micro-channels of controlled damage, the ablative mode of Tixel helps rejuvinate the skin by stimulating collagen. The ablative mode is the most intense setting and therefore provides the greatest results for improving skin texture, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, pore and acne scar reduction, and skin tightening.  

Non-Ablative Mode:
By heating the upper dermis, without heating the epidermis (the outer layer of skin), Tixel creates open channels that help serums and creams enter the skin. As the second most intense treatment setting, Non-Ablative Mode is used to treat age spots, acne scarring and sun damage. It also helps with skin texture and fine lines, but not to the same degree as the Ablative Mode. 

Open Channel Mode:
Being the least intensive treatment setting, Open Channel Mode is used to improve skin tone and texture by creating non-invasive channels so that your skincare products and mesotherapy serums work optimally in the skin instead of just sitting on top of the skin. We like to think of this treatment as the "glow up" because it had minimal downtime so can be used just before an event to give you that added glow. 

What we love most about Tixel is the versatility and safety of this treatment for the whole face, including the upper and lower eyelids. Tixel treatments can also be completed on the neck, chest, hands, knees, and any other body part (no on mucous membranes) for dynamic results with minimal interruption to your daily life.

What is tixel

Who is suitable for tixel?
Tixel can be used on all skin types, including those with pigmentation. In some cases we will complete a patch test to determine the right settings for your Tixel treatment. 

Tixel is NOT suitable for those with active skin diseases (lupus), active infections, pregnant/breastfeeding, recent radiation to the treatment area, chemotherapy, and recent use of acutane. You should also wait at least 3 weeks after direct skin exposure to sun or tanning beds.
What are the side effects & risks with tixel?
Tixel is a safe and effective treatment when used by trained professionals. Like any medical procedure, there are possible side effects which can be reduced when pre and post-care is followed closely. 

Tixel may cause sensitivity, redness, swelling, and discomfort in some people, especially in areas with thinner skin (around the eyes and eyelids). Minor hyperpigmented crusting/scabs may appear a few days after treatment and should be left to fall off naturally - never pick at them to help prevent scarring. 
what does a tixel treatment entail?
Tixel treatments are typically scheduled for 60 minutes. This is to allow time for topical numbing cream to be provided and leaves time for multiple areas of treatment (eyes, face, neck, chest, knees, hands, etc.) and post-treatment topicals. When numbing is completed your treatment area will be cleansed. During the Tixel treatment, the 81 pyramidal tips (made of titanium) are heated to 400 degrees celcius and makes contact with the skin for a fraction of a second. The mechanical thermal energy is then transferred through the skin to create channels of contained injury which then stimulates the body to heal itself, thus creating collagen, elastin, and other growth factors. 
What aftercare and effects should I expect?
  • Expect to feel a hot sunburn feeling for a few hours after treatment.
  • Redness and mild swelling can 1-2 days.
  • Micro-crusting (small scabs) of hyperpigmentation (brown) often starts day 3-4 and can clear itself after 4-7 days. Resist the temptation to exfoliate or pick these off, to reduce the potential of scarring. 
  • You should not experience any blistering or peeling.
  • Expect to apply hyaluronic acid and/or other serums recommended by your provider every hour as this is when maximum absorption takes place. 
  • Physical sunblock with zinc or titanium oxide should be applied at least daily to protect your skin investment.
  • Results can start to be seen 4-6 weeks after the first treatment and will get better with each treatment. Most patients will require 3-5 treatments for maximal results. 
  • Please note that your skin should be sun free for 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after treatment.
